(Philadelphia) The Philadelphia Flyers have listed defenseman Tony DeAngelo on waivers in an effort to buy out his contract after one season with the club.

DeAngelo was traded by the Carolina Hurricanes to the Flyers last July. He then signed a two-year, $10 million contract a few days later. He had 42 points, including 31 assists, in 70 games last season.

He was a sideline in the final five games of the campaign as the Flyers finished 14th in the Eastern Conference and did not make the playoffs.

DeAngelo led the Flyers with 19 power-play points.

Under the buyout, the Flyers will have a penalty of US$1,666,667 in calculating their payroll for the next two seasons, according to the specialized site CapFriendly.

Tampa Bay Lightning’s first-round pick in 2014, 19th overall, DeAngelo also played for the New York Rangers and Arizona Coyotes. He had 199 points in 340 games on the Bettman Tour.

DeAngelo also saw Rangers buy out the final year of his two-year, $9.6 million deal in July 2021. He then signed a one-year, $1 million deal with the Hurricanes.
