The day after the two titles won by Aurélie Rivard and Tess Routliffe, another Quebecer found herself on the podium at the World Para-swimming Championships. Sabrina Duchesne received bronze in the S7 400m freestyle on Tuesday in the UK.

Duchesne, of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, finished the race in 5 min 31 s, 17 s. To her surprise, she won the very first medal of her career at the World Championships.

“I feel great! It’s a great experience and I enjoyed the race, but I still expected a better time. Emotions are a bit mixed right now! Sabrina Duchesne told Sportcom.

American Morgan Stickney won gold by setting a world record of 4:54.28. Ahalya Letterberger, also from the United States, was second (5:22.27).

Fourth in this event last year, Sabrina Duchesne felt good going into the final, but she had some trouble during the race, especially in the last 200 metres.

“Training has been going well in the last few weeks, I felt ready and I was looking forward to it! It was very difficult on my breathing side, I know I have to work on that for next year,” said Duchesne, who will be in the 100 freestyle later this week.

“I had no medal expectations for the World Championships this year. Good if I have one! I was focusing more on my time and maybe that’s why I’m a little disappointed. It’s still my first medal, I’m very happy! »

In his second worlds event, Alexander Elliot placed seventh in the SM10 200m medley. After finishing fourth in his qualifying heat due to a timer of 2:20.66, he covered the distance in 2:20.53 in the final.

Italian Stefano Raimondi took gold in 2:10.41, followed by Australians Col Pearse (3.27 seconds) and Alex Saffy (5.66 seconds).

Elliot had been stopped in qualifying for the 50 freestyle the day before. He had then taken eighth place in his heat with a time of 26.25 s.
