Comedian Yannick De Martino canceled his participation in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue Emerging Humor Festival on July 1 because he is recovering from jaw surgery.

It was the comedian who made the announcement, in the last few days, on the Facebook page of the Festival d’humour emergent en Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

The procedure he underwent on May 1 is called a bimaxillary osteotomy. It aims to correct the position or size of the jaws. Yannick De Martino clarified on Facebook that this problem, which he dragged on “for a long time”, was starting to cause him trouble and pain.

“The operation basically consists of breaking your ‘mouth’ to adjust it in the most optimal way possible and then fixing it in the new position with plates that are drilled through your face. By the way, surgeons don’t talk about it like that in pre-operation… Otherwise I might have, how to say, let it happen, “wrote the comedian.

He explains that after a rather painful first month, where he had to deal with a swollen face, he has now started talking and eating again. That said, the medical team needs to replace a screw that has moved, he says. “They will remove my face bot on August 30th and it is only that day that I will know if I should have the entire plate changed under general anesthesia or only the screw under local anesthesia. »

According to Yannick De Martino’s manager, Jeff Bathurst, quoted in Le Journal de Montréal, the comedian intends to participate as planned in ComediHa! Fest-Québec, in August.
