(San Diego) Anastasia Potapova upset seventh-ranked world player Ons Jabeur 6-4, 7-6 (4) on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the San Diego Open.
Potapova, 27th in the world, thus had a top 10 player in the world for the fourth time this campaign.
Jabeur, a Tunisian, was the tournament favorite. She only put 39 of her first 85 service balls in play, committed nine double faults and was never really able to get going. Potapova, who is only 22 years old, still admitted after the match that she had to work hard to overcome the three-time Grand Slam finalist.

American Danielle Collins defeated Latvian Jelena Ostapenko 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, while 2021 U.S. university women’s singles titleholder Emma Navarro defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 7- 5, 6-4.
On the other hand, in Hiroshima, the Canadian Rebecca Marino lost 7-5, 3-6 and 6-1 to the American Elizabeth Mandlik in the round of 16. She was the only representative of the maple leaf competing in this tournament.
