(Edmonton) Klim Kostin scored the game-changing third-period goal for the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night to move one game all the way into the first round of the playoffs.

Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists for the Oilers, who lost Game 1 of the series 4-3 in overtime. Derek Ryan and Evander Kane also scored for the Oilers.

Oilers captain and NHL leading scorer Connor McDavid had an assist for his first point in the playoffs. He had been kept off the scoresheet in Monday’s opener.

Stuart Skinner made 23 saves for his first career NHL playoff victory. His Kings counterpart, Joonas Korpisalo, stopped 33 shots in the loss.

Gabriel Vilardi and Philip Danault were the scorers for the Kings.

Vilardi returned to the Kings roster after sitting out the final nine games of the regular season and Game 1 of the series with a lower-body injury.

Game 3 and 4 will take place Friday and Sunday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
