(Ottawa) The Detroit Red Wings have acquired Ottawa Senators forward Alex DeBrincat.

The Senators made the announcement Sunday, saying they had received forward Dominik Kubalik, defenseman prospect Donovan Sebrango, a conditional 2024 first-round pick and a 2024 fourth-round pick in return.

The Red Wings immediately signed DeBrincat, who has already scored at least 40 goals twice, to a four-year contract at an average annual salary of $7.875 million.

The initial condition for the first pick read as follows: The Red Wings will have the option of sending their own 2024 pick or the Boston Bruins’ first-round pick for the same draft.

However, if the Bruins’ 2024 first-round pick was a top-10 pick, Boston will have the option of keeping that pick and trading their 2025 unprotected first-round pick to the Red Wings. Wings will then have the option of sending that pick to the Senators or their 2024 pick.

The 27-year-old Kubalik played 81 games for the Red Wings last season, recording a career-high 20 goals and 25 assists.

A native of Ottawa, Sebrango spent the 2022-23 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings’ farm club in the American Hockey League, and with the Walleye de Toledo, the farm club in the ECHL.

Sebrango, 21, was an assistant captain for Team Canada Junior at the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship. He helped the team win gold.
