Quebecer Benjamin St-Juste gave the Washington Commanders the victory by stopping a two-point convert from the Denver Broncos on the last play of the game. The action happened after a 50-yard touchdown run from Brandon Johnson on a desperation pass from Russell Wilson. The Broncos absolutely had to convert two points to force overtime. But St-Juste ruined Denver’s chances by knocking down the pass that was intended for Courtland Sutton. St-Juste seemed to hold his opponent back, at least that’s what Sutton and his teammates claimed. But the Quebecer’s coverage was executed according to the rules of the art, according to officials. Ron Rivera’s men overcame an 18-point deficit to win 35-33. St-Juste’s defensive play allows the Washington team to start its season with a 2-0 record. A first since 2011 (see video).
Anthony Richardson of the Indianapolis Colts suffered a concussion in the game against the Houston Texans. This comes after a physically demanding first week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Richardson was reportedly injured while scoring a touchdown in the first quarter. He was hit by safety M. J. Stewart while crossing the end zone, then his helmet hit the ground as he fell. Richardson instantly got up to celebrate his touchdown, but left the game a short time later. The young quarterback particularly stood out for his performance on the ground, generating 2 touchdowns and 35 yards in 3 carries. The first-round pick, fourth overall, in the last draft completed 6 of 10 passes for a total of 56 yards. The Colts still scored their first victory of the season, 31-20. Gardner Minshew took over in Richardson’s absence, with 171 passing yards and one pass rush.
The Atlanta Falcons surprised the Green Bay Packers by winning 25-24. They therefore end the second week of the calendar with a 2-0 record for the first time since 2017. First-year player Bijan Robinson is no stranger to the team’s success. Atlanta’s first-round pick last spring stood out with a combined total of 172 yards, including 124 yards on the ground and 48 yards through the air. The running back more than doubled his performance from the previous week. If there is one who should appreciate this start to the season, it is Quebec lineman Matthew Bergeron, who is starting his career on a victorious note. The Falcons’ next opponents will not be easy. The absence of receiver Cooper Kupp (hamstring) since the start of the season opened the door for Puka Nacua. And it’s safe to say the Los Angeles Rams rookie is taking full advantage of his opportunity. The fifth-round pick from the last draft had 147 yards during the second week of activity, a 30-23 loss against the San Francisco 49ers. His 15 catches in a single game is an NFL record for a rookie. Nacua now has 25 catches in his first two career games, which is also an NFL record. Matthew Stafford’s new partner produced 119 yards in his first start.
