(Nashville) John Gibbons is back in major league baseball.

The former manager of the Toronto Blue Jays will support Carlos Mendoza with the New York Mets, as an instructor on the bench.

Gibbons, 61, managed the Blue Jays from 2004 to 2008 and again from 2013 to 2018.

He played 18 games for the Mets’ affiliates in 1984 and 1986.

From 1991 to 2001, he worked as a manager or instructor in the minor leagues.

The Mets also hired Antoan Richardson as first base coach, Mike Sarbaugh as third base coach and Jose Rosado as bullpen coach.

Eric Chavez will take over as batting instructor. This year he was the instructor on the bench, lending a hand to Buck Showalter.
