(Pittsburgh) Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett will be out indefinitely with a right ankle injury.

He underwent surgery Monday for a sprain.

On Sunday, Pickett left in the second quarter in a 24-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He was injured when defensive end Jonathan Ledbetter fell on him at the end of a ground play.

Coach Mike Tomlin said Mitch Trubisky will be the starting quarterback Thursday in Pittsburgh (7-5), against the New England Patriots (2-10).

Trubisky will get his first start since last December, when the Steelers won 24-16 against the Carolina Panthers.

Pickett was in the concussion protocol.

Sunday was the sixth time Trubisky had to replace an injured Pickett since Pickett became the starter, a month into the 2022 season.
