(Ottawa) Pink paint was thrown on the protective glass of a canvas by renowned Canadian artist Tom Thomson at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa on Tuesday as part of a protest against the government’s response federal to forest fires.

Ottawa Police say they arrested Kaleb Suedfeld and charged him with criminal mischief. The police add that they are still investigating.

“On2Ottawa”, a Canadian environmental group, had issued a press release shortly before the arrest warning that paint would be thrown at Thomson’s painting Northern River, painted in 1914-1915.

In an Instagram post from the group, we see a man throwing pink paint on the glass that protects the canvas.

The group says it has held several protests to disrupt traffic this month to draw attention to the problem of wildfires. He promises more action in Ottawa next month.

The National Gallery of Canada did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.
