Walmart Canada announces that nearly $1 billion will be invested this fiscal year in a series of projects aimed at modernizing the retail giant’s presence in Canada.

Spending will include more than 300 million for store redevelopment and renovation.

Some of the chain’s stores will be modified to include larger produce areas, with a greater assortment of produce, more space for employees to prepare customer orders and clearer aisle markings.

Walmart will also open a “store of the future” in Mississauga, Ontario, where customers will find electronic products typically stored in boxes, but arranged in open displays, encouraging interaction.

Still in the electronics section, customers will be able to see the availability of products in real time, scan a QR code to place an order and benefit from immediate delivery on site by a colleague.

The site will be completed by a health center which will bring together the pharmacy, the vision center and the Walmart medical clinic.

These changes are part of a five-year transformation Walmart Canada announced in July 2020 that aims to overhaul store infrastructure and the customer experience with improvements worth 3.5 billion.
