After pulling off the big bang by luring David Beckham and, more recently, Lionel Messi, MLS are reportedly courting French star Kylian Mbappé.

That’s what journalist Duncan Castles of the British tabloid Daily Record claimed on Monday. Mbappé, who is spending the last year of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, is being pushed out by the French club.

The defending champion of the French championship does not want to see his striker slip away at the end of the campaign without recovering money so he threatens him not to play for the season. Several clubs have approached PSG in recent weeks, including a spectacular offer of over $1 billion from a Saudi club. Mbappé refused this offer.

Nevertheless, after successfully luring Messi to the United States, MLS seem to want to get in on the action.

“There’s only been one David Beckham, there’s only one Lionel Messi,” MLS commissioner Don Garber said in a recent interview.

No speculation has emerged about the possible structure of the contract, potentially as ambitious as Messi’s, or the identity of any club that may be interested. The pharaonic, and complex, contract to attract Messi also included stakes from the broadcaster Apple and the equipment supplier Adidas.
