Canadian tennis player Bianca Andreescu has revealed that she tore two ligaments in her left ankle during a recent match at the Miami Open.

Andreescu offered a medical update through his Twitter account on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old Ontarian was injured Monday night in the second set of a fourth-round match against Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova.

She slipped as she moved along the baseline of the hard-court court and immediately grabbed her lower leg due to the pain. She then left the field in a wheelchair.

Andreescu said he has already started his rehabilitation, but everything indicates that this injury will prevent him from participating in the Billie Jean King Cup play-off between Canada and Belgium on April 14 and 15 in Vancouver.

“It’s hard to say how long it will take, but let’s just say it could have been worse,” Andreescu wrote.

“I’ll take it one day at a time and I’m confident that with the right rehabilitation and preparation program, I’ll be back on the court soon.”
