Released by CF Montreal at the end of the season, James Pantemis would land in Portland, with the Timbers.

This was revealed by American informant Tom Bogert on Friday morning. The arrival of the Quebecer in Portland would be part of a reshuffle at the goalkeeper position there. Trey Muse, a 24-year-old goalkeeper playing in the USL, would also come to compete with him.

The Montreal goalkeeper lost his starting position to Jonathan Sirois after an injury during the first match of the season, in 2023. At the end of the calendar, sports director Olivier Renard did not activate the option in his contract .

Pantemis, an Academy product, played a total of 51 games for Montreal over his six seasons with the senior team. He established himself as the starting goalkeeper in 2021, with 18 starts in 27 games.

Pantemis competed with Sebastian Breza for the number one goalkeeper position in 2022. He ultimately started 11 of the club’s matches, the majority in the second half of the calendar.

And since we’re talking about Quebec goalkeepers, note that Maxime Crépeau is currently without a contract with LAFC, his agreement having expired after the MLS Cup lost against the Columbus Crew. Well-anchored in Los Angeles, his potential return shouldn’t cause him to lose too much sleep.
