A few months after the launch of the latest AMG versions of the C-Class, it is now the turn of its SUV counterpart to receive the same treatment provided by new hybrid mechanics.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the latest iterations of its GLC 43 and GLC 63, both of which will adopt 2.0L turbo fours with highly variable electric downforce.
As for the GLC 43, the four-cylinder produces 416 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque thanks to the use, among other things, of an electrically assisted turbocharger, allowing it to keep its rotation.
The GLC 63 drops its charismatic twin-turbo V8 for the same four-cylinder with a larger turbocharger also supported electrically. A rear electric motor producing 201 hp on its own provides instant downforce, enabling maximum powertrain output of 671 hp and 752 lb-ft. It is powered by a 6.1 kWh battery allowing it to be recharged via a plug. Mercedes-Benz hasn’t disclosed the estimated range in electric mode, however.
Both mechanisms are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive favoring the rear axle, for more dynamism.
The GLC 43 will arrive in Canada early in 2024, while the GLC 63 will be available in the third quarter of 2024.
