(Quebec) The National Assembly honored the champions of the Memorial Cup, the Quebec Remparts, on Thursday.
A motion was unanimously adopted to pay tribute to them and a ceremony took place in the Salon Rouge, in the presence of the four party leaders represented in Parliament.
In front of the players who proudly wore the team jersey, the President of the National Assembly, Nathalie Roy, underlined that their victory was “brilliant” for the city of Quebec, but also for the entire Major Junior Hockey League of Quebec (QMJHL).
“Dear players, your team is more than a team, you don’t hesitate to call yourselves brothers, one big family,” she said, also greeting all the support staff, trainers, etc.
General manager and coach Patrick Roy for his part underlined the “boundless resilience” of his players.
“For the group of coaches, it was really a pride to be able to work with such a special group,” he said in his remarks.
In the House, the minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale, Jonatan Julien, unanimously passed a motion of congratulations.
She points out in particular that Patrick Roy is “one of our most illustrious ambassadors”.
The Assembly also recognizes “the sustained efforts of the Quebec Remparts which have made it possible to build, over the years, an unshakable organization allowing them to win three trophies”.
Remember that the Remparts won the Memorial Cup last Sunday by beating the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-0.
This is the fourth straight time that a QMJHL team has lifted the most important trophy in Canadian junior hockey.
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan (2018), the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (2019) and the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs (2022) preceded the Remparts, while the event did not take place in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
