The Atlanta Falcons announced Tuesday night the signing of Quebec offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron.

The value of Bergeron’s four-year contract is estimated at US$8.97 million, according to OverTheCap.com. Its impact on payroll will be 1.63 million in 2023.

The Falcons had traded the 44th and 110th picks to the Indianapolis Colts to move up to 38th to pick Bergeron in the recent NFL Draft.

Bergeron, who is a native of Victoriaville, was mostly employed as a blocker during his time at Syracuse University. The Falcons, however, believe that his qualities will make him a better guard.

“He’s built for it,” Falcons head coach Arthur Smith said in a quote from the team’s website. When a guy is brilliant like Matt and the way he played, that’s what we see for him. »

Bergeron could therefore fight for the starting left guard position, the only position that seems to be available within the Falcons’ offensive line this fall.
