This June 14, 2023, the actor Louis Garrel will pass the milestone of quarantine. A birthday that will certainly celebrate surrounded by his wife, the sublime Laetitia Casta with whom he had a boy, on March 17, 2021, as well as his relatives.
Louis Garrel comes from a family of artists. His mother, Brigitte Sy, took her first steps as an actress in 1979 with the film La Dérobade by Daniel Duval. She will then turn in about twenty films including Les Amants regulars directed in 2005 by her husband Philippe Garrel.
“She wrote me a letter that touched me a lot,” said Laetitia Casta about her mother-in-law in the columns of Marie-Claire magazine and added: “She was talking to me about the mother that I am. – and that I try to be (…) There was a strange and very beautiful thing between us from woman to woman, a kind of transfer (…) Beyond the fact that she is the mother of Louis, she is a woman with an incredible talent, and from the first meeting I ignored that it was my mother-in-law”, she concluded.
His passion for cinema is a real family story. His father is none other than the director Philippe Garrel and his grandfather, Maurice Garrel, became known from the 1960s. In 1991, he was even nominated for the César for best supporting role for his performance in La Discreet. The latter starred in many of his son’s films throughout his career before passing away in 2011 at the age of 88.
