(Newark) The New Jersey Devils have signed defenseman Kevin Bahl to a two-year, $2.1 million contract.

Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald said Monday the 23-year-old defenseman will pocket $900,000 in 2023-24 and $1.2 million in 2024-25.

Bahl is in his third NHL season with the Devils and has appeared in a career-high 42 games this season. He had two goals and six assists. He also played in 11 of the team’s 12 playoff games.

Known for his physical play, Bahl averaged 6.52 hits per 60 minutes, which ranked him second among Devils defensemen to play more than 10 games.

The Devils acquired Bahl in December 2019, in a trade that sent Taylor Hall to the Arizona Coyotes.

Bahl made his NHL debut late in the 2020-21 season against the Philadelphia Flyers. Previously, he had worn the colors of the Devils school club in the American Hockey League, in Binghamton and Utica.
