Haas Formula 1 Team test driver Pietro Fittipaldi has made the jump to the IndyCar series ahead of next season and will drive the third car for the Rahal Letterman Lanigan team.

Fittipaldi, the grandson of 1989 IndyCar Series champion and two-time Indy 500 champion Emerson Fittipaldi, has competed in nine career IndyCar Series races, but none since 2021. He was in Austin, Texas, for the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix last weekend, as a Haas test driver.

Fittipaldi will drive the #30 car which belonged to Jack Harvey, until he is let go towards the end of the campaign. The RLL team then relied on a committee of drivers, in the hope of finding the rare gem.

Fittipaldi never drove the #30 car for the RLL team.

The Brazilian-American driver spent his final years in a reserve role with Haas. He also took part in two F1 races in 2020, notably finishing 17th at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
