Quebecer Eugenie Bouchard lost 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-4 against Veronika Kudermetova in the second round of the Omium in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Monday.

Bouchard, ranked 248th in the world, had a difficult start to the match against the 19th player in the world and seventh seed in the tournament.

The 92% of first serves in play were not enough for Bouchard in the first set. Of those balls, she won just 13 points, and none on her second serve.

The first game of the second set almost saw Bouchard make the entry break, but Kudermetova made sure to start the set the same way she ended the first.

Bouchard recovered two games later, taking advantage of his break point at 15-40 to make it 2-1. She then confirmed her break of serve with four quick points, bringing the score to 3-1 in the second set.

Serving for the set at 5-4, Bouchard could not save two break points and Kudermetova brought the score to 5-5. The Quebecer ultimately won the tiebreaker 7-4.

Kudermetova, however, took control quickly in the third set, breaking her opponent’s serve to take a 2-1 lead. This break was enough to win the final set 6-4.

Kudermetova had eight aces, compared to two for Bouchard. Kudermetova won a total of 116 points in the duel, 14 more than her opponent.
