Uvis Balinskis scored his first NHL goal for the Panthers, while Kevin Stenlund added an empty-net goal.

Sam Reinhart had two assists for the Panthers.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Sebastian Aho scored the Hurricanes’ goals.

Antti Raanta made 29 saves.

The Panthers seem to have the better of the Hurricanes for a while, having won 10 of the last 12 meetings between the two teams.

Balinskis received a pass from Tkachuk and gave his team a 2-1 lead late in the first period.

Florida then remained in control, en route to a fourth victory in five games.

Evgeny Kuznetsov completed a double in an empty net on Friday as the Washington Capitals prevailed 4-2 against the New Jersey Devils.

Nicolas Aubé-Kubel and Beck Malenstyn scored 15 seconds apart during the first period.

Aubé-Kubel was recalled earlier Friday from Hershey of the American League.

Tom Wilson had two assists and Charlie Lindgren made 24 saves.

The Capitals improved their seven-game record to 5-1-1.

Timo Meier and Dawson Mercer fought back for New Jersey, beaten for the third time in four games.

Max Domi scored in the fifth round of the shootout and the Maple Leafs won 5-4 at the expense of the Calgary Flames on Friday.

JJ Peterka scored the deciding goal early in the third period on Friday, helping the Buffalo Sabers win 3-2 against the Minnesota Wild.

Henri Jokiharju scored the other goal for the Sabres, who are 4-1-1 in their last six games.

Devon Levi blocked 31 shots, being foiled by Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek.

Filip Gustavsson made 22 saves for the Minnesota club, limited to two wins in its last eight games.
