(Mexico City) Mexico’s Argentine coach Diego Cocca was sacked on Monday after his side were knocked out of the Concacaf Nations League semi-finals last week.

Mexican Jaime Lozano has been named interim coach for the Gold Cup, the North and Central American championship, which begins on Saturday.

Cocca will only remain in charge of the “Tri” for four months, victim of Mexico’s heavy 3-0 defeat last Thursday against the United States in the semi-finals of the League of Nations.

Mexico then took third place in the competition by beating Panama 1-0 in the ladder match.

“The natural thing to do would have been to wait until the end of the Gold Cup,” admitted Mexican Federation President Juan Carlos Rodriguez, “but today we have no time to waste, so I’m letting you know that I have made the decision to terminate the contract of Diego Martin Cocca and his staff”.
