(Chicago) The general manager of the United States women’s soccer team, Kate Markgraf, has resigned following the elimination of the World Cup against Sweden in the round of 16 and the departure of coach Vlatko Andonovski, a announced the American federation on Friday.

“It’s been an incredible honor to work with the players, coaches and staff of US Soccer to keep our (roster) at the top of women’s soccer,” Markgraf said, according to the US FA statement.

The Managing Director, in office since 2019, will be present until the end of August to help with the transition at the management level.

Markgraf was the first women’s football manager appointed to the national team, a task that included overseeing the activities of the American team alongside Andonovski.

The resigner played 201 times for the American selection from 1998 to 2010, succeeding with her teammates in winning the 1999 World Cup as well as the Olympic title in 2004 and 2008.

Double defending champions, the Americans were eliminated in the round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup which is currently being held in Oceania, losing on penalties on August 6 against Sweden (0-0 a. p.).

The American federation announced Thursday the resignation of Vlatko Andonovski, 46, Team USA coach since October 2019. The interim will be provided by Twila Kilgore, who has worked as assistant for the past 18 months.
