The port of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield has had a new operator since May 26. The shipping company Desgagnés, based in Quebec, has acquired Valport and will now manage the handling and storage of cargo at the port of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.

The Société du port de Salaberry-de-Valleyfield announced at the same time that it had entered into a partnership with Desgagnés which aims to oversee the rental of port facilities and infrastructure. Desgagnés announced that Valport founder Frank Dunn will continue in his role until the transition is completed.

Desgagnés employs 875 people across Quebec. The arrival of the new owner aroused the enthusiasm of the chairman of the board of directors of the port of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Roland Czech. “With the arrival of this new shareholder, the port can now foresee an increase in traffic and business development aligned with the port’s investments, in order to ensure its strategic growth,” said Mr. Czech in a press release.

Every year, some 130 ships from or to international and national commercial markets call at Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.
