The nation’s seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts last month was 274,681 units, up 1% from September’s 270,669 units, the federal agency said.

The pace of housing starts in urban centers increased 2% to 257,357 units. In these centers, multiple housing starts climbed 1% to 209,887 units and single-family starts advanced 9% to 47,470 units.

CMHC said the annual pace of housing starts in Montreal fell 43% and 24% in Toronto, while Vancouver’s housing starts rose 35%, boosted by a 40% increase in starts. under construction of collective housing.

The annual pace of rural housing starts for October was estimated at 17,324.

The six-month moving average of the seasonally adjusted monthly annual rate of housing starts in October was 256,280 units, up 1% from September’s 253,957 units.
