Calgary Flames Quebec winger Jakob Pelletier is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left shoulder next week and will be out indefinitely.

The Flames updated Pelletier’s status after the 22-year-old was injured in a preseason game against the Seattle Kraken on Monday.

Pelletier was checked headfirst in the boards by Marian Studenic with six seconds left in the first period. After writhing in pain, Pelletier was escorted off the ice by a Flames therapist, his left shoulder visibly injured.

Studenic received a five-minute major penalty and a match misconduct.

Pelletier, Calgary’s first-round pick in 2019, had an assist in the game before getting injured. Last season, the Quebecer had 3 goals and 4 assists in 24 games with the big club.
