(Richmond Hill, Ontario) Growth in motor vehicle sales continued in July, but at a slower pace than in recent months, the specialized firm DesRosiers Automotive Consultants said on Wednesday.

Total light vehicle sales for the month were up 8% from the same month last year, up from 12.6% in June and 13.5% in May, DesRosiers said.

Sales totaled approximately 140,942 units in July, which was the ninth consecutive month of sales growth.

This total remains well below pre-pandemic levels. No less than 173,519 vehicles were sold in July 2019.

DesRosiers says the seasonally adjusted annual rate of sales came in at 1.55 million for the month, which was lower than June’s rate but well above May’s.

Auto sales plunged during the COVID-19 pandemic due to supply and production disruptions, and they have been slow to recover.
