(Buenos Aires) Argentine striker Angel Di Maria, who notably played for Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, will stop playing for the national team after the 2014 Copa America in the United States, the world champion announced on Thursday.

“With all the pain in my soul and a lump in my throat, I say goodbye to the most beautiful thing that has happened to me in my career,” Di Maria wrote on Instagram.

The Copa America, of which the Albiceleste is the defending champion, will be played from June 20 to July 14.

“This will be the last time I wear the Argentina jersey,” continued the 35-year-old, current Benfica player and former Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

His last qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup was the 1-0 victory in Brazil last Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro.
