(Newport) Canadian Daniel Nestor is once again one of the candidates who could be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the organization announced Tuesday.

Nestor, who is 51 years old, is one of six candidates eligible for the 2024 vintage, along with Leander Paes, Cara Black, Ana Ivanovic, Carlos Moya and Flavia Pennetta.

Paes, who won 18 Grand Slam titles in men’s and mixed doubles, became the first tennis player from Asia to be among the players who are candidates for the Hall of Fame.

Li Na, a Chinese woman who won two Grand Slam singles titles, became the first Asian player to be inducted in Newport, Rhode Island, along with the 2019 class.

Two builders will also be among the candidates on the ballot for 2024: Vijay Amritraj and journalist Richard Evans.

Nestor, Black, Ivanovic, Moya and Pennetta all failed in their quest to secure 75% of the votes of the official group of voters – which includes journalists, historians, Hall of Famers and experts on the industry – as well as a few additional points calculated based on amateur voting. Candidates can remain on the ballot for three years.

The virtual ballot carried out among amateurs to elect possible candidates will take place from Wednesday until October 9.

The 2023 crop of the International Tennis Hall of Fame was inducted last July.
