(Washington) “We will not hesitate” to further raise key rates “if necessary” in the face of high inflation, warned the president of the American central bank (Fed), Jerome Powell, on Thursday.

Rates are at their highest level in more than 20 years, but that may not be enough, he says: the Fed “is committed to achieving a monetary policy that is restrictive enough to bring inflation down to 2.0%; we are not sure” that this is the case.

More details to come.
