(TORONTO) Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray will be sidelined indefinitely and has been added to the long-term injured list as a result, the team announced Wednesday.

The 29-year-old, who went 14-8-2 with a 3.01 goals-against average and .903 save percentage in 26 games last season, joined the Leafs following a trade with the Ottawa Senators last summer.

Murray, who has a reputation for being injured often, played honestly for the Leafs. However, he couldn’t avoid the Leafs’ infirmary, first because of a groin injury, then because of another ankle injury, and finally because of a concussion suffered in April. .

The Thunder Bay, Ont., native won the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017.

Murray still has one season left on a ratified four-year, $25 million contract with the Senators in October 2020, after being acquired from the Penguins. He was expected to take $4.69 million from the Leafs’ payroll next season, after the Senators withheld 25% of his salary in the deal with the Toronto club.

Currently, if training camp started today, the Maple Leafs would bet in their net on Ilya Samsonov and prospect Joseph Woll. Samsonov earned a one-year, $3.55 million contract from the Leafs in arbitration last weekend.
