(Toronto) Shortstop Bo Bichette was placed on the 10-day disabled list by the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

The star player injured his right knee Monday while rounding first base in the third inning of a 4-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

The gesture is retroactive to August 1.

Bichette leads the American League with a .321 batting average and 144 hits. He and Vladimir Guerrero lead the Toronto club with 17 long balls.

Paul DeJong will play shortstop in the evening against the Baltimore Orioles.

He was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals at the major league baseball trade deadline on Tuesday.

The Blue Jays will be looking to end a three-game losing streak.
