(Toronto) Toronto Blue Jays reliever Anthony Bass said he was sorry for sharing a homophobic post on social media.

Bass spoke briefly to media representatives hours before the Blue Jays’ game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. He read a statement and the journalists present could not ask him questions.

The 35-year-old Bass shared an Instagram post from another content creator on Monday using “Bible reasons” to call for a boycott of Bud Light and Target, which have publicly supported the LGBTQ community.

Bass said he apologized to his teammates and intends to use the resources offered by the Blue Jays to better educate himself.

He added that “the baseball field is for everyone” and that the Blue Jays want to welcome everyone.
