(London) Former world No. 1 Tiger Woods will sit out the 151st British Open next month in Liverpool as he has not fully recovered from surgery after injuring his right ankle and foot.

“We have been advised that Tiger will not be playing at Royal Liverpool. We wish him the best for his recovery,” tournament organizers said.

The 47-year-old Woods withdrew from the third round of the Masters in April due to a foot injury requiring surgery, and did not attend the US PGA Championship at Oak Hill in May or at the U.S. Open this week at the Los Angeles Country Club.

Ahead of the Masters this year, Woods had hinted that this might be the last time he played. In February 2021, he feared he would have to have his leg amputated due to a traffic accident in Los Angeles.
