Mike Matheson joins the Canadiens leadership group. The Quebec defender has been named assistant captain Nick Suzuki, the team announced Monday morning.
Brendan Gallagher will return in the role of deputy.
Last season, Gallagher and Joel Edmundson were Suzuki’s assistants. Edmundson, however, was traded to the Capitals this summer.
Matheson begins his second season with the Habs. In 48 games, the 29-year-old athlete scored 34 points.
