(Montreal) Defender David Savard is the winner of the Jacques-Beauchamp-Molson trophy, given to a Montreal Canadiens player who played a decisive role in the team’s success during the regular season, without taking any honors individuals.

Savard was a mainstay with the Canadiens during a long season where the emphasis was on development. He’s backed up a group of young defensemen, as five different rookies have regularly patrolled the Habs’ blue line this season.

The Saint-Hyacinthe native played 62 games and the team compiled a 27-31-4 record when he was in uniform. Savard averaged 22:23 per game and blocked a total of 174 shots.

The 32-year-old guard also provided three goals and 17 assists in his second season with the Habs.

Savard succeeds Alexander Romanov as winner of the Jacques-Beauchamp-Molson trophy.
