Mark Weightman was officially named president of the Montreal Alouettes on Tuesday afternoon.

Montreal Alouettes owner Pierre Karl Péladeau has announced the appointment of Weightman as the team’s president and CEO. He will take office on April 11. “Mark shares the same vision for the long-term future of the team both in terms of its day-to-day management, its return to financial health and our desire to increase our core of fans at the stadium and in Quebec. These are the conditions that will allow us to put Montreal back at the top of Canadian football,” Péladeau said in a press release.

The Quebecer worked in the organization from 1996 and 2016, notably holding the position of president and chief executive officer from 2013 to 2016.

He also participated in the creation of the Trois-Rivières Lions in the ECHL, of which he has been the director since 2020, and the Montreal Alliance in the CEBL.

“It’s a real privilege for me to find the Montreal Alouettes, a team that I love, that I know and that I have always been,” added Mario Cecchini’s successor.

In addition, the latter was delighted with the arrival of Weightman. He believes he leaves the team in good conditions: “It is with the feeling of accomplishment that I end my adventure with the Montreal Alouettes. I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved over the past three years, especially the relationship we’ve built with the fans. We juggled unique circumstances including the pandemic and a change in ownership, but we got through it, together. »
