In recent weeks, the Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (Drees) has established a ranking of the departments where retirees earn the best living. In this list, some surprises float with pensions sometimes much higher than those hoped for by many retirees. Depending on the various criteria used, is your department one of the places where retirees receive the most money? Find out in our slideshow.

In order to establish this ranking of the departments where French retirees receive the largest pension, the Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (Drees) has put in place certain criteria. Indeed, it is an accumulation of average pensions that is proposed for the result of this study: gross pensions, basic pensions, supplementary pensions, as well as survivors’ pensions have thus been taken into account to develop this top. Unsurprisingly, it therefore remains quite close to the top 5 departments ranked according to the average salary of residents.

If the top 10 has several surprises in store, the top 5 reveals fairly low pensions, depending on the departments. In Doubs, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot-et-Garonne, Mayenne and even Aveyron, the average pension amounts are around 1,200 euros gross. For the number 1 of the top, we are rather around 2,000 euros gross monthly. It should be remembered that, throughout France, the average gross pension amounts to 1,531 euros. Discover, in our slideshow, if your department is among those where you earn the best living in retirement.
