Earlier this fall, another round of COVID-19 cases put Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show on hold. The show is sidelined again this week, this time as the host is recovering from a ruptured appendix.

The comedian revealed on social media on Monday that he was recovering after surgery, canceling shows scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. “In the future, all emails sent to my appendix will be processed by my pancreas,” he joked.

Colbert had three busy shows planned, including guests Jennifer Garner, Baz Luhrmann, Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer, the return of former conductor Jon Batiste, and Barbra Streisand was scheduled to answer The Colbert Questioner.

In mid-October, Colbert contracted COVID-19 and had to cancel a week of the late-night show, although he hosted one from home, as he did throughout the pandemic.
