(Shanghai) Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz had to come from behind in the opening round before eliminating Briton Daniel Evans 7-6 (1), 6-4 on Monday and earning his ticket to the fourth round of the Shanghai Tennis Masters.

In the second set, Alcaraz played almost flawlessly, making only two unforced errors.

In the next round, Alcaraz will face Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who defeated Russian Karen Khachanov 7-6 (6), 6-4.

Also on Monday, Andrey Rublev hit 35 winners to defeat Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-0. The Russian’s next rival will be American Tommy Paul, who defeated Arthur Fils, a 19-year-old Frenchman, 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-4.

Argentinian Diego Schwartzman also caused a surprise by defeating American Taylor Fritz 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5), for his first victory against a top 10 rival in almost 18 months.

In his next match, Schwartzman will face Nicolas Jarry, who beat Lorenzo Sonego 7-6 (4), 6-2.
