Future Nostalgia allowed Dua Lipa to establish herself as one of the dominant forces in pop, making us dance in our living rooms as if the pandemic didn’t exist. A red color later, would she prove to us her ability to stay in the leading pack? Her announced collaboration with Kevin Parker of Tame Impala suggested a psychedelic turn, but Dua Lipa keeps both feet on the dance floor here. Thanks to the instantly recognizable touch of Parker (co-producer of the song with Danny L Harle, one of the key artists of hyperpop), however, we feel transported to a more illicit club than Studio 54 where Future Nostalgia seemed camped. Through constantly changing motifs, we have the impression of discovering hidden rooms of a clandestine disco, but Dua Lipa’s personality and sense of melody remain in the foreground and assure us that we are in the presence of ‘a future hit.
