Zach Hyman scored three goals in the first period and the Edmonton Oilers ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Seattle Kraken on Saturday.

Hyman completed his hat trick 1:20 from the end of the first period when he took advantage of a loose puck in front of the net to score his seventh goal of the campaign. It was his second career hat-trick.

It was just the 10th first-period hat trick in Oilers history.

Wayne Gretzky was the last Oilers player to score three unanswered goals in the first period. It was October 17, 1986.

Dylan Holloway also flashed the red light in the first for the Oilers, and Stuart Skinner made 17 saves.

Jaden Schwartz scored on a power play for the Kraken with 17:36 left in the third. He thus scored in a fourth game in a row while extending his streak to nine games in a row with at least one point.

Philipp Grubauer was removed from the game after surrendering four times on 17 shots in the first period. In relief, Joey Daccord made nine saves during the next two periods.

The Ottawa Senators ended a five-game losing streak at home with a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday.

The club from the national capital benefited from a team effort, as Mathieu Joseph, Drake Batherson, Rourke Chartier and Travis Hamonic scored. Joonas Korpisalo was solid with 24 saves.

Dustin Wolf played his first game this season with the Flames, blocking 34 pucks. He never got offensive support from his teammates, while Blake Coleman was the only scorer for the visitors.

With his first goal of the season, Chartier made it 3-1 in the opening moments of the third period after a nice delivery from Dominik Kubalik. It was his second career goal, the first dating back to October 28, 2018.

Less than two minutes later, Kubalik put the finishing touches with his first goal of the campaign. Joseph obscured Wolf’s view of the sequence.

Erik Brannstrom returned to the Senators lineup after a five-game absence due to a concussion.

Noah Gregor broke a 2-2 tie in the second period and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 on Saturday.

Gregor broke the deadlock at 14:22. He was also an accomplice in David Kampf’s goal.

William Nylander collected a 10th goal, improving his team mark with a point in his 15th straight game to start a season.

Matthew Knies and Nick Robertson scored the other Leafs goals.

Ilya Samsonov made 31 saves, making amends after giving up four times on 12 shots Monday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tyler Bertuzzi, Max Domi and Bobby McMann added two assists each.

J. T. Miller and Pius Suter responded and Thatcher Demko stopped 18 shots for the Canucks, who had won their last five games.

The Maple Leafs allowed less than four goals at home for the first time this season.

The club will travel to Sweden to face Detroit and Minnesota on November 17 and 19.

Robby Fabbri scored twice and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 on Saturday.

Recovered from a lower body injury, Fabbri has three goals in three games since his return to play.

Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat and Daniel Sprong scored the other Wings goals, while Ville Husso blocked 17 shots.

The Red Wings had lost their last two games.

Alex Texier, Adam Fantilli, Sean Kuraly and Patrik Laine responded for the Jackets, who lost a fourth game in a row.

Spencer Martin made 23 saves.

The Red Wings flew to Sweden after the game. On Thursday, they will face the Ottawa Senators in Stockholm.

Brayden Schenn and Pavel Buchnevich both scored three goals and the St. Louis Blues defeated the Colorado Avalanche 8-2 on Saturday.

Alexey Toropchenko and Torey Krug also scored for the Blues and Jordan Binnington stopped 36 pucks as the Blues avenged a loss to the Avalanche earlier this month.

Schenn scored his fourth career hat trick – his first since 2017 – and Buchnevich got his third.

Mikko Rantanen and Jack Johnson scored for the Avalanche, who lost their second straight home game after starting the season with a 4-0-0 record at Ball Arena.

Alexandar Georgiev surrendered six times on 28 shots before being pulled from the game early in the third. Ivan Prosvetov made 12 saves in relief.

The Avalanche had to make do without former Montreal Canadiens forward Artturi Lehkonen, who suffered an upper-body injury when he collided with the boards Thursday in a loss to the Seattle Kraken.

Wyatt Johnston had two points, including a goal, and the Dallas Stars defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Saturday.

Thomas Harley and Matt Duchene also scored for the Stars. Scott Wedgewood made 31 saves.

Cole Perfetti and Brenden Dillon responded for the Jets, while Connor Hellebuyck blocked 27 shots.

The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the Jets, who were playing the second of five consecutive games in Winnipeg.

The Stars took a 3-1 lead heading into the third period. The Jets got within a goal when Dillon beat Wedgewood with a veiled shot.

The Stars had taken a 2-0 lead shorthanded when Johnston stole the puck from Perfetti in the Jets zone. He then took a shot that surprised Hellebuyck.

Pyotr Kochetkov made 23 saves as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 on Saturday.

Kochetkov earned his fifth career shutout.

Sebastian Aho and Brent Burns provided a goal and an assist.

Teuvo Teravainen and Stefan Noesen were the other scorers for the Hurricanes, winning six of their last eight games.

Jonas Johansson stopped 28 shots for the Lightning, who were shut out for the first time this season.

Nikita Kucherov missed the match due to an unspecified condition.

The Lightning forward is second in the league with 23 points.

Tampa Bay only made three shots in the middle period.

Playing his 300th game in the National League, Noesen scored by deflecting a shot late in the game.

Undefeated in four home games this season, Carolina will host the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.

Erik Karlsson scored twice in the third period on Saturday, helping the Pittsburgh Penguins win 4-0 over the Buffalo Sabres.

Karlsson hit the mark on the superiority, before finishing in an empty net.

Sidney Crosby contributed to Karlsson’s second goal, picking up a point in an eighth straight game.

Tristan Jarry made 35 saves, collecting his third shutout of the season and 16th career.

Evgeni Malkin scored an eighth goal and Drew O’Connor also scored for the Penguins, who won a fourth straight game.

The team outscored the opposition 20-5 during the streak.

The Penguins’ next game will take place Tuesday in Columbus.

Alex Ovechkin scored twice, Hunter Shepard recorded his second NHL victory and the Washington Capitals defeated the New York Islanders 4-1 on Saturday.

Nic Dowd and Aliaksei Protas also scored for the Capitals, who have won three of their last four games.

The 28-year-old Shepard finished the night with 36 saves in his second National League start.

Alexander Romanov scored the Islanders’ goal, collecting their first point this season.

Semyon Varlamov stopped 34 pucks for the Islanders, who lost a fourth straight game.

Ovechkin completed his double into an empty net. He now has 826 career goals.

The Capitals captain is second in goals in NHL history, with 68 fewer than Wayne Gretzky.

Michael Carcone scored two goals to lead the Arizona Coyotes to a 7-5 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Clayton Keller scored once and added two assists. Sean Durzi totaled two points, including a goal. Troy Stecher, Alex Kerfoot and Nick Bjugstad were the other scorers for the Coyotes.

Connor Ingram made 36 saves in the win. Logan Cooley had three assists and J.J. Moser had two.

Filip Forsberg scored a double while contributing to another goal for the Predators, who have lost three games in a row and five of their last six. Dante Fabbro had a goal and an assist.

Kiefer Sherwood and Ryan O’Reilly also lit the red light for the Predators. Roman Josi, Tommy Novak and Gustav Nyquist all had two assists. Juuse Saros blocked 19 pucks.

Before the game, O’Reilly was honored during a ceremony to mark his 1,000th NHL game, which occurred on October 31 against the Vancouver Canucks.

Cal Petersen made 35 saves in the Philadelphia Flyers’ 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

The Kings had obtained at least one point in their last eight games.

Morgan Frost scored twice in the win, while Owen Tippett had a goal and an assist. Cam Atkinson was the other scorer for the visitors.

Carl Grundstrom and Adrian Kempe threaded the needle for the Kings. Sean Walker collected two assists.

Cam Talbot stopped 22 pucks, losing a first game in regulation in his last seven outings.

The Flyers will conclude a four-game road trip by visiting the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday. The next day, the Kings will host the Florida Panthers.
