(Cleveland) Cavan Biggio hit his eighth home run of the year, breaking a clean sheet in the eighth inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 on Monday.
Biggio powered a switch from Enyel De Los Santos (2-2) into the center field bleachers. He was preceded at home plate by Daulton Varsho, author of a single just before him.

The Blue Jays earned their fourth straight victory as they recently swept the Boston Red Sox. They put themselves three games ahead of the Seattle Mariners in the fight for the last place among the teams drafted in the American.
Hyun-Jin Ryu was entering his second game since returning to action following Tommy John surgery in June 2022. He was hit with an arrow to his knee in the fourth inning which ended his working evening.
The South Korean managed to throw to first base to save the takedown before collapsing to the ground in pain. He needed help getting off the field.
“The bullet just hit my knee and I have a bruise,” Ryu said through an interpreter. I didn’t make anything worse by running and playing the game.”
Ryu had been nearly perfect so far, conceding just one walk and striking out four batters.
Six relievers have come and gone for the Jays. Jay Jackson, Genesis Cabrera and Erik Swanson (3-2) all pitched for an inning without giving a run.
Called to the mound for the eighth, Yimi Garcia conceded singles to Brayan Rocchio and Myles Straw after registering a first out. He was then replaced by Tim Mayza, but the Guardians’ only run, produced by Bo Naylor with a single, was scored.
Sent into the fray to end the game, Jordan Hicks allowed the local favorites to fill the cushions without giving up a point to make his 10th save of the season.
Guardians starter Gavin Williams had a quality outing allowing just one hit and one walk in seven innings while striking out 12 batters.
The rookie was getting his ninth start since being recalled from the AAA level. He has an earned run average of 2.90. In 49 and two-thirds innings.
“I feel like all my shots worked and it lasted the whole game,” Williams said. It’s good to find your rhythm. »
Nick Sandlin gave the Blue Jays a third run in the ninth on a George Springer single. Brandon Belt hit the plate.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday for the second game of a series of four. Yusei Kikuchi is expected to be the Jays’ go-to man on the mound. He should face Tanner Bibee.
