(Doha) Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson won and suffered a defeat on Thursday at the Professional Beach Volleyball Circuit Finals.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson started their day with a 2-1 (21-14, 16-21, 15-10) victory against Latvians Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova, before losing 2-1 (21-17 , 15-21, 17-15) ahead of Brazilians Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Eduarda Santos Lisboa, ranked first.

The Brazilians defeated the representatives of the maple leaf in the gold medal match at this year’s Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

Ranked fourth, the Canadians have a 2-1 record heading into their final match of the preliminary round against Germans Svenja Muller and Cinja Tillmann on Friday.

They started the Finals with a 2-0 victory against the reigning world champions, Americans Sarah Hughes and Kelly Cheng, on Wednesday.

The Finals feature the top eight teams plus two other drafted duos. Some US$800,000 is at stake.
