(Vancouver) Thousands of BC port workers will walk off their day shifts on Tuesday to hear details of a deal reached between their union and their employers.

The British Columbia Maritime Employers Association says the offer presented is the same one that International Longshore and Warehouse Union leaders previously rejected, which briefly sent workers back to the picket line last week.

A 13-day strike, which began on Canada Day, prevented billions of dollars worth of goods from entering and leaving some of the country’s busiest ports.

The strike was suspended when the contract was reached with the help of a mediator, but was later reinstated when the union leadership rejected the plan.

A labor board ruled the port workers’ second walkout was illegal, prompting the union to issue a 72-hour strike notice, which was then canceled hours later.

Union members are now expected to vote on the offer later this week, but it is not yet clear when the results could be made public.
