(Los Angeles) PGA commissioner Jay Monahan is recovering from a medical condition and has handed over control of the tour.

The PGA announced the news on Tuesday evening, without disclosing the nature of the health problem and the seriousness of the situation. She added that two other executives will manage the day-to-day operations of the circuit, which is going through possibly the most tumultuous times in its 54-year history.

The situation comes a week after Monahan surprised the golfing world by announcing that the PGA was ending its dispute with the Saudi-backed LIV Tour and had instead agreed to a business partnership.

Monahan, 53, spent nearly two months negotiating the deal with two PGA board members while keeping the players in the dark. All admitted their surprise and some confessed to feeling betrayed.

Chief Operating Officer Ron Price and President Tyler Dennis will handle the management of PGA business during Monahan’s absence.

Monahan was scheduled to meet with players and media representatives next week at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut.
