(Baltimore) Anthony Santander and Cedric Mullins homered as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 on Thursday.

Atop the All-American East Division, the Orioles held a two-game cushion ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jose Berrios (9-9) gave up five runs and nine hits in six innings.

He was 10-0 against Baltimore so far, including 6-0 at Camden Yards.

“We got the job done,” Mullins said. We had very good swings against him. »

The Orioles defeated the Blue Jays for the 10th time in 13 occasions this season.

Kyle Gibson (13-7) allowed three runs and six hits in eight innings, the longest outing by an Orioles starter this year.

Three of his wins came against Toronto.

Felix Bautista had a 33rd save.

The rain meant that the match started an hour and a quarter later than planned.

Then, Gibson and Berríos each retired the first nine batters to face them.

In the fourth, Vladimir Guerrero drove in with an optional and George Springer followed up with a sacrifice fly.

The Orioles leveled on their next turn at bat via Santander’s two-run hit, after a single from Adley Rutschman. The ball ended up on Eutaw Street.

Santander leads with 24 homers in 2023.

Mullins broke the deadlock an inning later – also a two-run slap, after an Austin Hays single.

Also in the fifth, Gunnar Henderson added a one-run single.

The Jays’ response was then limited to Brandon Belt’s cannon shot.

“They’re strong,” Blue Jays manager John Gibson said of the Orioles. They can hurt you in many ways. It’s not for nothing that they have such a record (79-48). »

Ryan Mountcastle of the Orioles was 0 for 4. He had hit the trails in 28 straight games.

Chris Bassitt will start the Jays on Friday against Cleveland, opening the curtain on a six-game stint in Toronto. The Nationals will also be there.
