(Munich) Rain forced organizers of the BMW Open to suspend play for the day on Wednesday, leaving Alexander Zverev and several other players stranded.

Play was halted in the first game of the day, between qualifier Aslan Karatsev and German pass holder Daniel Altmaier. Karatsev led 4-6, 7-6 (2), 3-0. The winner will face Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round.

After postponing the resumption of activities on a few occasions, the organizers have resigned themselves to ending Wednesday’s program.

Zverev was scheduled to face Australian Christopher O’Connell in a second-round match. The duel is one of nine singles and five doubles matches that have been pushed back to Thursday. The winner of the clash between Karatsev and Altmaier will have to play two matches on the same day.

However, the calendar could again be disrupted, while showers are still expected on Thursday and part of Friday in Munich.
