(New York) Australian Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the U.S. Open tennis tournament as he continues to recover from injury, organizers said Thursday.

Kyrgios, 28 and currently ranked 92nd in the world, has only played one tournament in 2023 after knee surgery in January followed by a wrist injury. He had notably forfeited Wimbledon and the ATP tournaments in Washington, Toronto and Cincinnati. He reached the quarter-finals of the US Open last year.

The organizers also indicated that the German Jan-Lennard Struff, 25th in the world, had also forfeited this tournament. Kyrgios and Struff will be replaced by Argentinians Facundo Diaz and Diego Schwartzman.
